Description
A classic Italian-American comfort dish featuring crispy chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted cheeses, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup flour
- 2 large eggs
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup freshly grated mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with the beaten eggs mixed with minced garlic, and one with the panko breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning.
- Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, dip in the garlic egg wash, then press into the seasoned panko until well-coated.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the breaded chicken for 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Transfer the seared chicken to the prepared baking dish, spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then top with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden and the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature 165°F/74°C).
Notes
For dairy-free options, use plant-based mozzarella and dairy-free Parmesan. Can be made gluten-free with appropriate substitutions.
