Description
A weeknight lifesaver, this oven-baked BBQ chicken turns few pantry staples into a sticky, flavorful main that pairs perfectly with anything.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5–2 lb total)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite bottle or homemade)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1–2 tablespoons olive oil (optional; helps with browning)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Position a rack in the center.
- Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Lightly oil a baking dish or line it with foil. Place the breasts in a single layer.
- If using, drizzle olive oil over the chicken and rub it in to help the sauce adhere and the surface brown.
- Spoon or brush about two-thirds of the BBQ sauce over the tops of the breasts, spreading it evenly.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until an instant-read thermometer reads 165°F (75°C).
- Optional: Brush with remaining sauce and broil on high for 1–2 minutes for a glossy finish.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing or serving.
Notes
For even cooking, pound or butterfly thick breasts. Use a thermometer for accuracy.
